What sets you apart from other tour companies?

Eco Xpedition Tours is the only eco friendly tour company in Nicaragua dedicated to offering you an eco friendly, adventurous experience. Our eco tours are about exploration: discovering new places, discovering new cultures, seeing the world from a new perspective, even discovering ourselves. We are involved in the wonder of learning, seeing and discovering new places and people. We refuse to be a part of the problem and take a stance to be a part of the solution, while sharing our love for Nicaragua with you.

Why are you eco friendly?

Today global warming is an issue we cannot ignore. It is here and it is destroying our planet. We have witnessed first hand the deforestation of Nicaragua as well as the extinction of many flora and fauna and are committed to raising awareness, educating and helping to preserve the countries ecology and biodiversity one tour at a time. Because there is a lack of environmental education being offered to the people of Nicaragua, as well as a lack of governmental support to make a decision and act on behalf of its environment, we have made the commitment to join forces with other eco friendly organizations and locally owned businesses to take matters into our own hands. By adopting the three “R’s” model (reduce, reuse, recycle) we limit the footprints we leave behind and help support local economies and their culture.

Which tour is right for me?

All of our tours include visiting volcanoes, lakes, and colonial cities. However, if your interests lie in the organic production of coffee as well as a naturalistic perspective, we recommend the coffee route. If you are fascinated with the pirate culture, spending more time on the beach and water activities, we recommend the pirate route. If you want to learn more about history and are intrigued by the colonial period, the colonial tour will take you back to 15th century Spanish dominated Nicaragua. We recommend the Volcano route to those who are interested in learning more about the active and dormant volcanoes in Nicaragua as well as the vast chain of lakes.

What should I pack for my trip with Eco Expedition Tours?

For each eco tour we will provide a detailed packing list for participants that have booked, that will make it easier to prepare for their adventure. Of course a valid passport, (valid for at least six months after the time of travel), binoculars, cameras, and all other personal effects. We will provide further information on climate and clothing, luggage, emergency contacts, travel documents, etc., on receipt of your booking.

What is your maximum group size?

Eco Xpeditions believes that by maintaining the group size at a minimum, no larger than 13 people, we can offer you the best personalized tour experience possible, as well as minimizing our impact on the environment.

What age groups enjoy the tours?

We welcome all ages, but recommend that children be at least 5 years of age so that you all may enjoy and appreciate the experience.

What does the cost of each eco tour include?

Tour costs include all tours and services in the destination country, boat and lodging accommodations, transfers, ground transportation and only meals and activities specifically listed in your itinerary. Accommodations and services listed in the trip itinerary are subject to change, but substitutions will be made of similar or better quality if necessary.

Tour costs do not include airfare to your destination, passport or visa fees, foreign exit taxes, immunizations, alcoholic beverages, laundry, telephone or telegraph charges, excess baggage, gratuities, insurance and any expense of personal nature such as hygienic items, or souvenir and momento shopping.

What if I have to cancel my trip?

Any cancellations must be made by phone and in writing. If a cancellation occurs within 45 days prior to departure date, additional charges will become payable by the client to the company according to the following sliding scale of percentages of the total price:

Written cancellation received prior to departure: Cancellation charge as percentage of the tour price:
45 days to departure
15% of the deposit
44-30 days to departure
30% of deposit
29-15 days to departure
50% of tour total cost
14-7 days to departure
75% of tour total cost
Less than 6 days to departure

Should I purchase travel insurance?

We strongly recommend that you purchase travel insurance. Should you have to cancel your trip because of illness, injury or death of yourself or an immediate family member, this insurance protects all your deposits and payments for both air and land cost.
