Reforestation Project
Addressing the challenge of global climate change requires a sustained effort for many years to come. Eco Xpedition Tours is addressing this issue by embracing eco tourism principles, and educating our travelers as well as the local communities. In an effort to further enhance our eco friendly ways, Eco Xpedition Tours has developed an offset program to help support a reforestation project in Ocotal, Nicaragua that allows all of our travelers the opportunity to participate in.
Nicaragua's forest cover has declined from an estimated 8 million hectares, in 1950, to a current level of less than 4 million hectares, and today we are seeing that deforestation is spiraling out of control with little to no regulation on the government's part. It has been noted that if current rates of deforestation are allowed to continue, Nicaragua's remaining tropical rainforests will be all but gone within 10-15 years. This reality is one that needs to be addressed and by starting reforestation projects we can help to counter the problem and be a part of the solution.
With every tour that Eco Xpedition Tours offers, you may calculate your Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG's) for travel from your location of departure by using the Flight Calculator. You may then use this calculation to purchase carbon offsets allowing you the opportunity to become a part of the solution to climate change and converting your adventure into a climate impact neutral tour.
Eco Xpedition Tours has partnered with a local farm owner in Ocotal, Nicaragua in an effort to support a carbon reducing program through a reforestation project. As a traveler with Eco Xpedition Tours you can help support this project by offsetting your carbon footprint. Your contribution will be utilized to plant native trees equal to the amount of carbon emissions your travels to and in Nicaragua put out. As you finalize your reservations with Eco Xpedition Tours, remember to add on your carbon offset to your final tour price.
