Volcano Tour
Known as the Land of Volcanoes, Nicaragua boasts 17 active and inactive volcanoes. At the top of these volcanoes are some of the most spectacular views one may ever see, but in order to get there you have to put on your hiking shoes. On this tour you will be afforded the opportunity to see 5 volcanoes and experience them all differently.
Day 1: Your journey begins with your arrival to Managua, Nicaragua. You should plan to arrive at the airport (MGA) by 1:30pm where you will be met and greeted by your Eco Xpedition Tours leader. We will take a private transfer north to the colonial capital of Leòn where we will check into an eco friendly hotel in the heart of the Leòn. Once refreshed we will take a short city tour and learn about its fascinating history. In the evening we will enjoy a Nicaraguan organic cuisine accompanied by entertainment. (D)
Day 2: Hotel breakfast and depart on a 45 minute drive to the base of Cerro Negro Volcano. After hiking up its surreal black sand and rocky terrain we will experience adrenaline pumping Volcano Boarding. We return to Leòn for lunch and then a quick refreshing stop at the hotel. Put on your bathing suit and we embark on our way to Poneloya Beach to catch some waves with lessons offered by a local surfing instructor. A majestic beach sunset sets the background for this evening's dinner.

Day 3: Breakfast and transfer to the active cone at the Masaya Volcano National Park for hiking and where you will stand face to face with the heat and the grumbling sounds of burning lava inside of this rumbling and active crater also known as La Boca del Infierno (Hell's Mouth). We will enjoy lunch overlooking a panoramic view of Laguna de Masaya. We then take off to the dungeons of a hilltop fort known as Coyotepe Fortress, a 19th century fortress which was later converted into a prison for political prisoners, overlooking the city of Masaya. Continue to the historic city of Masaya to visit the renowned crafts market where the world's finest hammocks, as well as wood, leather and clothing goods are created by hand. After picking out some souvenirs we head off to Granada, or Gran Granada, the oldest colonial city in the Americas, where we will check into our hotel and refresh for the evenings dinner. (B)
Day 4: Enjoy breakfast and prepare yourself to hike Volcàn Mombacho where we will search for the only salamander species native to this reserve. We will enjoy a quiet lunch among nature and then fly our way down through the rainforest canopy back to the base. We will then transfer back to Granada to enjoy serene kayaking around Las Isletas. Afterwards, we will transfer to Laguna de Apoyo and settle into a quaint eco lodge where we can take a swim in the cleanest swimming hole in all of Central American and enjoy dinner with evening entertainment. (B, L)
Day 5: After breakfast we will hike the nature trails around the lagoon and work our way to El Mirador de Catarina where we will enjoy a superb panoramic view of the entire lagoon, Lake Nicaragua and Volcàn Mombacho. We return to our eco lodge where we will spend the rest of the day relaxing on the lagoon so that everyone can gather up their energy for the next volcano hike. (B, L)
